Monangambeee, the title of Sarah Maldoror’s first short-feature, is a warning cry; a cry first used to signal the landing of Portuguese slave-traders and later adopted by anti-colonial activists during the Angola liberation struggle. In her adaptation of a short-story by José Luandino Vieira, Sarah Maldoror filmed the oppression and torture of a political prisoner by the Portuguese colonial regime in the prisons
of Angola.
